Do you have an interest in art, history or architecture? If so, come and share your passion…
Volunteering is an enjoyable, meaningful and rewarding experience, allowing you to get involved and give back to the local community, develop skills, and experience arts and heritage in a gallery and museum environment.
Our varied volunteer roles can provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills and experience for a career in arts and heritage, or meet new people and enjoy your time in a friendly environment. Whether you’re a budding storyteller, a green fingered gardener, or an art and history enthusiast, we have opportunities for you to get involved with and be at the heart of the action.
Our fantastic volunteers are an integral part of Orleans House Gallery as valued members of our team. They support the gallery and programme in a wide range of roles across every aspect of the service.
With your support, we can continue to share and promote arts and heritage to the community, especially the house’s rich history and the importance of the 4000+ artworks that comprise the Richmond Borough Art Collection, as well as provide a high quality visitor experience.
Immerse yourself in the history and art of an extraordinary 18th century site and contemporary art gallery, share your knowledge and passion with our visitors, and help us engage to inspire current and future generations.
Who can volunteer?
You don’t need to have any experience of volunteering; all we ask for is an enthusiasm for our art and history and a willingness to learn new skills and information.
We will provide relevant training, supervision and support for you to be successful in your role.
At present, we are only able to accept volunteers aged 18 or older. We are currently redeveloping our career development programme that will support those looking to start a career in arts and heritage, including work experience and voluntary placements. We will have information on this page when available.
The commitment we ask for varies for each role, but we are flexible regarding the time you can give to support us, as well as trying out the roles we have available.
We recognise that COVID-19 has had an unprecedented impact across all areas of society, and that volunteering is more important than ever in providing you with opportunities to learn, experience and develop in the arts, culture and heritage sectors, as well as promoting good mental health and strengthening communities.
However, we are currently limited to the number of volunteers we can accommodate and as a result, we are working to offer new roles across the Arts Service to bring you onto our volunteer team. We still welcome applications for all roles at the present time, although we may have to defer start dates in some instances.
Volunteer safety has been paramount in the reopening of the gallery, and we have implemented a range of safety measures to ensure your health and wellbeing during your time with us. We will discuss any health issues or requirements at the application stage to be able to look after you whilst volunteering. Please let us know if you have any concerns in your application.
We are currently recruiting for roles in the descriptions below, and Gardening Volunteers.
We also looking for volunteers to give their time on weekends – please apply if you have any availability on Saturdays and Sundays.
To apply to be a volunteer at Orleans House Gallery, please complete the online application form below.
