As part of the What Moves You? exhibition, we are delighted to welcome exhibiting artist, calligrapher and collector Samira Kitman for a special day of conversation, discovery and collecting.

In 2016, Samira Kitman was forced to leave her homeland after receiving threats because of her visibility as a female artist and entrepreneur. Along with her own artistic practice, she brought with her hundreds of artworks that she had spent years protecting and preserving during a time when Afghanistan’s cultural heritage faced destruction, displacement and loss.

Samira will be at the gallery throughout the day with a selection of artworks from her personal collection available to purchase. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet her, learn about her remarkable work preserving Afghan cultural heritage and discover the stories behind the artworks she has safeguarded over many years.

At 11am, Samira will lead a tour of the works she has contributed to What Moves You?, sharing the extraordinary journeys of these artworks, alongside reflections on the beauty, joy and traditions of Afghanistan.

Book a free ticket for the 11am tour or drop into the gallery anytime between 11.30am – 4pm to meet Samira and explore her collection.
