This exhibition tells the story of Sophie’s attempts to reclaim lost parts of her heritage. Through her research she travels to District 6, South Africa, where her grandmother grew up and an area which was flattened during apartheid. From there she travels to St Helena, where her grandfather was born. This British overseas territory with an extensive but little-known history includes the unmarked burial site of approximately 8000 ‘Liberated Africans’ who lost their lives during the illegal transatlantic slave trade.

Sophie invites the public to contribute to the exhibition by sharing their experiences of identity and heritage.
